Accomplished, Motivated Pianists Can Apply for
Musician Apprenticeship Program

CD*NY is seeking two accomplished, highly motivated pianists living in the NY City area for its 2011-12 Musician Apprenticeship program in English Country Dance. This year’s program will admit two apprentices for an intensive, 9-month course of individual instruction and ensemble playing with the goal of learning the art of improvising and playing for ECD.

Candidates should be committed to the program, classically trained with strong technical skills, a flexible schedule to attend CDNY week night dances (currently on Tuesdays), and the desire to play for CDNY's English dances. They must also be willing to participate in the dancing to fully understand the relationship of the music to the dance.

If you are interested, please submit your application, found under the English Country Dance tab at the CD*NY web site, by November 11. Or encourage your interested pianist friends to apply.

We Need Your Help Finding a New Venue for English Country Dances

We still need a new place to hold our Tuesday English dances starting in January.   Will you help? Please download the flier, “May our non-profit rent your space?” which has details of what we need in a space. Take it with you to places you may know about. Our preference is close to public transportation in Manhattan, but we are open to looking at other sites.

You can email us your ideas about locations for our English Dances.

Shoe Requirement - We Need to Show Our Hosts That We're Considerate of Their Facilities

To ensure that the floor is preserved for our dancers and for other users, please bring clean soft-soled shoes with you to change into at the dances. They should be shoes that have never been worn outside. If you can't set aside a pair of shoes just for dancing, clean the soles of your shoes thoroughly to remove all grit and dirt. High-heeled shoes are not allowed.

    New Dancers

We always welcome new dancers, who are the future of our dance community. Here are some tips that will help you dance better. They apply to English Dances as well as contradances.
