---------------------------- Original Message ---------------------------- Subject: Open textbooks provide many benefits to authors From: "Jacky Hood" Date: Tue, May 26, 2009 10:28 am To: TextandAcademicAuthors@taaonline.net -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Text and Academic Authors, I would like to introduce the Community College Open Textbook Project and the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources. We are grant-funded (Hewlett Foundation, Maxfield Foundation, Digital Marketplace, and others) and actively working to sponsor open textbooks and other open educational resources. We would like your members to know that there are financial and professional benefits to creating open textbooks. Two of our websites are listed below my signature and our collaboration site is http://collegeopentextbooks.ning.com/ Smart History ( http://www.smarthistory.org ) is an outstanding example of a grant-funded open textbook. The site won the 2009 Webby award for Best Educational Website. We also need textbook reviewers with at least one year of college teaching experience. A stipend is available for reviews that require about 20 hours of effort.
